This short animated film celebrates the life and presence of the late Nina Masó, co-founder of Santa & Cole, and a key figure in Barcelona’s design culture.

It began as a collaboration with Nina herself and, following her passing, grew into a celebration of her way of seeing the world; of how she shaped light, both literally through design and metaphorically through her presence.

Produced by BOL & directed by Device, Ciara Quilty-Harper’s pastel oil style anchors the film in texture and atmosphere, allowing Nina’s words to unfold as lived images.

The animation adopts a contemplative, grounded rhythm, attentive to the era, the objects, and the person portrayed. Working from Ciara’s sketches and final artworks, the team created a completely handcrafted 2D process, without the use of AI. Each image was layered and textured by hand, staying faithful to the artist’s visual language. The palette remains intentionally restrained, guided by Ciara’s original colours, while drawing on photographs of the period and archival material from Santa & Cole to shape the film’s world.

The film moves through Barcelona in the 1990s; its streets, bars, beaches, and interiors, not as documentation but as memory. Rather than hyperrealism, it leans into sensation and mood, weaving subtle echoes of Santa & Cole’s designs into spaces filtered through Nina’s way of seeing.

Originally conceived as part of an initiative to explore & spotlight female creative voices in Barcelona, it stands as a love letter to her vision, her way of thinking, and the deeply human, timeless legacy she helped shape.
