Art Titles reimagines the world’s greatest artworks as nostalgic 8-bit pixel art video game intros.

Imagine the Sistine Chapel as an 80s video game intro. Picture discovering the Giza Necropolis one pixel at a time, with some good old 8-bit music in the background. And now expand this to an entire collection inspired by classic masterpieces.

This is exactly what we did for Art Titles, our latest project with All in Pixel: we embarked upon a nostalgic trip across 12 of the world’s most famous works of art and reimagined them in an 80s video game style.

GYZA Necropolis - 2510 AC
PARTHENON - 432 AC
VENUS DE MILO - 130 AC
COLOSSEUM - 70
THE BIRTH OF VENUS - Botticcelli - 1485
DAVID - Michelangelo - 1501

We like to push the boundaries of pixel art and play with new realms of possibility in this field. And what better way to do it than by exploring the world’s most famous architectural and art wonders from a video game point of view?

We created this collection starting from one of the oldest constructions on Earth, the Giza Necropolis, and gradually worked our way to the present and to the very masterpiece we can see from our studio windows in Barcelona: La Sagrada Familia. Our aim was to balance the 3 main art forms in the process, giving architecture, sculpture and painting their moment to shine.

SISTINE CHAPEL - Michelangelo - 1508/1512
GIOCONDA - Leonardo da Vinci - 1503
THE THINKER - Rodin - 1882
LAS DOS FRIDAS - Frida Kahlo - 1939
LA PERSISTÈNCIA DE LA MEMÒRIA - Dalí - 1931
LA SAGRADA FAMILIA - Gaudí - 1882 / Act

The process from classical art piece to pixel art, including the animation, hosts some easter eggs about every piece’s history or context, leaving clues for all the serious players out there. We’ll give you a hint: the lightning behind Michelangelo’s David is not there casually, and neither is the marble block!

Seeing classic works of art in this form triggers both a sense of nostalgia and the novelty of looking at some of the most famous landmarks and paintings with fresh eyes. Epicness and longing collide, creating a unique and magical experience that is bound to make you wonder: how would they play out in a real video game? How would that game develop and what would it be called?

We hope that you enjoyed this nostalgic trip down memory lane and will come away with a new appreciation for the timeless masterpieces we reimagined.

Plus, now you can actually do something with this appreciation, as every piece will be part of a NFT collection, bridging past and future in an even more intriguing way! This way, Mona Lisa can finally smile and relax, knowing that nobody can actually throw digital art paint at her as an NFT. Not to mention you’d get to actually own a Da Vinci or a Michelangelo. The sky's the limit, and its clouds are made of pixels!
